My Imaginary Cottage

Another Memorial Day weekend is approaching and it is time to open my imaginary summer cottage. My imaginary cottage is quite small and on a crystal clear lake. The cool breeze from the lake guarantees our comfort on the hottest summer days. Once we are at the cottage we don't need to use our car, except for the occasional trip to the drive-in movie theater or flea market. The kids pick baskets of berries for breakfast, pies and jam. It is amazing how great my pie crusts turn out using the restored vintage oven. The giant hydrangeas in the backyard make for the most spectacular bouquets all summer long. Lulu and Deke love spending their days together, swimming, fishing and hiking, and they never argue at the imaginary cottage. O.K., that may be asking for too much.

What a nice place to go to. Sounds great. I would think I had died and gone to heaven if I had that. sigh...

Veto's family has one of those very cottages in northern Ontario "Cottage Country" and we were lucky enough to spend a week there last summer. I had no idea that nature could be so... nice. I thought camping, even in a cottage, would be a little rustic but I had no clue. It was wonderful.

And actually, even when it rained, the kids did not fight at all.

I love your cottage.
We are actually working on my imaginary cottage. We're lucky we work at a slow pace because we've change our minds a lot. I picture us cooking freshly caught fish and reading books from our staircase library. You can follow our snail paced progress at church/cabin blog.

Ah, the On Golden Pond fantasy. I have it too. But I'm a rental girl because I don't want to do the work;)

Wait, that's my imaginary cottage. Hope there's no conflict in our imaginary vacation schedules.

I loved this post. I grew up in Michigan, so we spent a lot of summers at cottages. When we moved back to Indiana 9 years ago, we talked about getting a house at the lake here in town. But I decided to open a business instead. Go figure!! Someday, the cottage will be mine. Thanks for your comment on our blog. BTW, I went to our Wal-Mart, and we aren't even cool enough in small-town Indiana for the cool Wal-Mart stuff. How sad is that. Waaah! But I'm going to try the letterboxing and see what turns up. (: Have a wonderful holiday. xo -- Sandy/rhubarb reign
